The Sacral Chakra

Is your Sacral Chakra blocked?

The word “chakra” means “disk” or “wheel” in Sanskrit. This is referring to the different energy centers in the body and each center corresponds to major organs and nerves in the body. To function optimally, these chakras need to stay balanced and aligned, but, because life is difficult and chaotic at times, sometimes they get blocked which can manifest emotionally or physically. Below we dive into specifically the Sacral Chakra, what it is, and signs it could be imbalanced.

What is the sacral chakra?

The sacral chakra is also known as the second chakra. It is located about two inches below the belly button and is represented with the color orange. This is the chakra that guides your emotions, sensitivity, intimacy, sexuality, and creativity. A lot of a person’s self-expression is governed by the sacral chakra. The sacral chakra also impacts the lymphatic and circulatory systems, bladder, kidneys, large intestines and reproductive organs.

What are signs your sacral chakra is imbalanced?

Generally, if you feel creatively blocked or drained this is a sign that your sacral chakra needs a little bit of attention and rebalancing. An imbalanced sacral chakra may also manifest itself through feelings of depression, moodiness, anxiety, and general feelings of being overwhelmed as well as a loss of imagination. Some physical symptoms may include joint stiffness as well as hip and back pain. Sometimes it may manifest through pelvic pain and constipation. When the sacral chakra is balanced, people feel creative, joy, fulfillment, and general wellness.

How can you balance it?

Once you pinpoint that your sacral chakra may need to be rebalanced, there are many ways to balance it. The first way you can start to balance your sacral chakra is to simply acknowledge that you are in need of support and healing, whether this is verbally out loud, through journaling or mantras. Another way to aid in balancing your sacral chakra is to eat nourishing foods, which are generally whole plant-based foods. Generally anything that has not been processed.

You should also get your creative juices flowing. Because the sacral chakra has such a strong effect on creative expression, attempting to get these juices flowing again and to feel inspired is an amazing way to find that balance. Also, because the sacral chakra is connected to the hips and pelvis, some hip opening exercises and stretches can be very beneficial. Some poses you can start with are the butterfly pose, sleeping pigeon in yoga, and seated torso circles.

One of the final things you can do is bring some crystals into the mix. Crystals that can specifically aid in balancing the sacral chakra include, amber, coral and orange calcite, citrine, orange aventurine, carnelian, and hematite. You can place these crystals on your sacral point while meditating.
