The Solar Plexus Chakra

Is your Solar Plexus Chakra blocked?

The word “chakra” means “disk” or “wheel” in Sanskrit. This is referring to the different energy centers in the body and each center corresponds to major organs and nerves in the body. To function optimally, these chakras need to stay balanced and aligned, but, because life is difficult and chaotic at times, sometimes they get blocked which can manifest emotionally or physically. Below we dive into specifically the Solar Plexus Chakra, what it is, and signs it could be imbalanced.

What is the solar plexus chakra?

The solar plexus chakra is located in the upper belly around the diaphragm. This is known as the center of personal power. This chakra is connected to the personality, identity and the ego which can also tie into personal freedom, choices and authenticity. A lot of our personal motivation and willpower comes from the solar plexus as well. Physically, this chakra is connected to digestion and overall gut health. This chakra omits masculine energy and is represented through the color yellow.

What are signs your solar plexus chakra is imbalanced?

If your solar plexus is imbalanced these symptoms can manifest in a few different ways. Some common physical symptoms include digestive issues related to IBS, heartburn, nausea, ulcers, loss of appetite and acid reflux. On the extreme end, serious conditions such as diabetes and eating disorders can be symptoms of an imbalanced solar plexus. Emotionally, if your solar plexus is out of alignment, you may feel a strong need for control, helpless, insecure, or you may possess a strong victim mentality.

How can you balance it?

Yoga, or moving your body in general can help balance your solar plexus chakra. Implementing a healthy balance of exercise into your routine can work wonders for this type of balance.

Another helpful tool in balancing the solar plexus is utilizing affirmations.  Affirmations are a big part of yoga and guide the meditations and flows but are also great to use on your own as well. Some great solar plexus affirmations include, “I am enough,” “I know who I am, and I live true to myself,” “I am strong, capable, and powerful,” and “I am confident and authentic.”

Aroma therapy and essential oils can be a great approach to balancing the solar plexus chakra. Specifically utilizing scents such as cedar wood, rosemary, and chamomile can really help your solar plexus. Some crystals that can also super charge your balancing efforts include, citrine, yellow topaz, and yellow tourmaline.

Lastly, one of the smaller daily steps you can take in balancing your solar plexus is to do anything, big or small, throughout the day, that fills you up with feelings of strength and power. This can be anything from putting on an outfit that makes you feel strong and on top of it to cooking yourself a meal that gives you a nice healthy confidence boost. Whatever it is that makes you feel powerful, do it!
